Defined Benefit Fund Public Fixed Income
OPERS seeks to obtain broad exposure to fixed income assets for the purpose of fund diversification, income generation, capital preservation and liquidity. Most assets in the Fixed Income allocation are managed by internal staff across a range of active and passive strategies. OPERS utilizes a select group of external managers to invest in more specialized sub asset classes, such as Emerging Markets Debt and High Yield.
The asset class strives to balance more liquid, high quality strategies (e.g., Core Bond and U.S. Treasuries) with more equity-like strategies across Public Credit that generate higher relative coupon income. The Fixed Income allocation also includes exposure to Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) to provide a level of inflation protection to the fund.
